SEO Huddersfield Where to start

Why am I not ranking on Google?

Because Google either cannot find your page, cannot tell what it is for, or has decided a competitor answers the search better. Those are the only three families of cause, and nearly every case we look at in Huddersfield falls into one of them. Below are the five specific reasons behind them, in the order they most often turn out to be the culprit, with a check for each that takes minutes and costs nothing. Work down the list before you spend a penny.

What are the most common reasons a website does not rank?

Five things, and they come up in roughly this order: there is no page for the search, the page exists but says the wrong words, Google cannot reach or index the page, nothing on the wider web says the business is credible, and the competition is simply better established. The first two account for most of the Huddersfield sites we are asked to look at, which is good news, because they are the cheapest to fix.

  • No page written for the search you want
  • A page that exists but uses different words from the searcher
  • Google cannot crawl or index the page
  • Nothing on the wider web says the business is credible
  • Competitors with more history, more pages and more reviews

How do I check whether I have a page for the search?

Type the search into Google exactly as a customer would, say commercial electrician Huddersfield, and look at what ranks. Then ask whether your site has a page whose whole job is that service in that place. A paragraph on a general services page does not count. Google ranks pages, and a page that tries to be about eight services is about none of them. If there is no dedicated page, you have found the cause, and no amount of tinkering with the homepage will change it.

The second check is the words. Open the page you think should rank and read its title and first heading. If the customer types gas engineer and the page says heating solutions, the two never meet.

How do I check whether Google can see the page at all?

Search Google for site:yourdomain.co.uk followed by a word from the page. If the page does not appear, Google has not indexed it, and nothing else on this list matters until it has. Search Console confirms it: paste the address into the URL inspection bar at the top and it tells you whether the page is indexed and, if it is not, why. The usual reasons are a noindex tag left over from the build, a robots rule blocking the folder, or a page that no other page links to.

This one is less common than the first two, but when it is the cause it is total, so check it early.

What if the page exists and is indexed but still does not rank?

Then Google has weighed it against the competition and preferred theirs, and the question becomes what they have that you do not. Open the three sites above you and count: how many pages on that service, how many reviews on their Business Profile, how many photographs, whether other sites mention them. A new page with three hundred words is not going to displace a firm with ten years of reviews and a page for every suburb, whatever the words on it say.

Search Console shows the honest picture. The Performance report lists every search your site appeared for and where. A page sat at position 30 for the right search is a different problem from a page that never appears at all, and the fix is different too.

What would Halizona do about it?

Run those same checks, in that order, before proposing anything. Where the cause is a missing page, we write it, around the words people actually type and with the proof that makes it believable. Where it is an indexing fault we fix it and confirm in Search Console that Google has re-read the page. Where the competition is better established we tell you what it would take and roughly how long, and whether it is worth it for that search.

Dolphin Heating in Huddersfield is the clearest example. Plenty of customers want a female gas engineer and were typing exactly that. The website, the positioning and the search work were built around those words, and the business is now number one on Google for female gas engineer Huddersfield and named in the AI answer.

Dolphin Heating

Business
Fay Dolphin is a Gas Safe registered engineer with more than 25 years in the trade, running one van across Huddersfield. A good share of her customers specifically want a female gas engineer.
Problem
The thing that sets the business apart is exactly what those customers type, and it needed a website and a search presence written around those words before Google or an AI assistant could connect the two.
Work
Website, positioning, SEO and AI search, all built around the phrase customers actually use, so the page, its title and the way the business describes itself say the same thing in the same words.

Number one on Google for female gas engineer Huddersfield, and named in the AI answer when people ask.

“David created me a new website. He was easy to talk to and understood exactly what I wanted. I was very impressed with his knowledge and he was always on hand if I had any questions. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend David and Halizona. Excellent service.”

RB Electrical

Business
R.B Electrical (Halifax) Limited, an electrical contractor doing commercial and domestic work plus EV charging installation, Rolec and OZEV approved.
Problem
Each service is a separate search. EV charging, commercial installation and domestic work are looked for by different people using different words, and one general electrical page cannot rank for all of them.
Work
The brand, the website, the SEO and the content, then the marketing month by month. Every specific service got a page of its own with enough on it to rank in its own right, and the content has kept coming since.

An average of around two organic leads a week for five years, which works out at roughly a five to one return on the investment.

Common questions

Questions people ask about this

How long until a new service page ranks?

Weeks for a search nobody else has bothered to write a page for, months where established competitors already have one. Search Console shows the first impressions long before the first click, so you will see it moving.

Does a new domain take longer to rank?

Usually, yes. A domain with no history has nothing for Google to trust yet, and the first few months are about earning that through pages, mentions and reviews.

Want the right Huddersfield customers finding you first?

You do not necessarily need more marketing. You might need the marketing you already have to stop tripping over itself.
